Homes near the coast in Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Del Mar, and La Jolla collect a different kind of dirt than homes inland. Sand travels in on shoes and towels, salt air leaves a film on glass and metal, and bright sun shows every streak and speck of dust.
Sand is the most persistent. Keep a mat outside and inside every door that leads to the beach or patio, and vacuum entry areas and sliding door tracks often. Sand in a door track grinds the rollers and makes the door harder to open over time.
Salt film builds up on windows, mirrors, and metal fixtures, especially on the ocean-facing side of the house. A regular wipe with a damp microfiber cloth followed by a dry one keeps glass clear and slows corrosion on handles, hinges, and outdoor light fixtures.
Humidity also matters. Bathrooms and closets near the coast can develop mildew faster than inland homes. Run exhaust fans after showers, leave shower doors open to dry, and check grout lines regularly.
A regular cleaning schedule is the easiest way to stay ahead of all three. Small, frequent cleans keep sand and salt from building up into the kind of grime that takes a deep clean to remove.
